Along with 1 in 5 Americans, those of us entrepreneurs and contractors have been hard hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, as illustrated in a StarTribune article this week. As health care workers not offering "essential medical care" nor based in a hospital with medical grade cleaning support, we have been forced to close and transform many of our services or classes that were previously held in person or including touch. Certain hospitals have begun restricting doulas from laboring with families, or from the Operating Room.

We are hopeful that hospital leadership will advocate for doulas as essential care, and that the State of Minnesota will follow through on promises to extend unemployment support to entrepreneurs as well as to the many, many industries closed and jobs suddenly lost.

Meanwhile, we encourage anyone interested in supporting our work and livelihoods to purchase gift cards or virtual support services with individual providers (find their contact info here), and contact local media and your elected officials on behalf of all small business and affected industries (sample email letter language here).

We also invite you to consider joining our New One Percent campaign or the many other ways to stand in solidarity with us, including making a one-time donation below. We understand that everyone is shocked and affected in one direction or another, and it is a hard time to feel abundant or to have extra. We wish us all abundance, and we appreciate your care in all the ways it travels.
